I think about names a lot. I do. I’m a writer. I often have to think about names. Many writers pick names for different reasons. For me it either just fits and slips into my head easily or I have to search long and hard. Sometimes I look into origins or meanings of names and it probably comes as no surprise to you that sometimes the information you find can be conflicting. However, I’ve seen in many instances that Sharon means Princess. My father named me. I sometimes wonder if he knew this and was trying to tell me something he could never bring himself to put into words while he was alive, but only tell me in writing after he died. If you had known my father you would understand why I think that’s not entirely out of the realms of possibility.

Then you come across sites (which I stumbled on via a myspace page) where you get long definitions such as this (below). It’s interesting, although you can’t take them seriously. I imagine many of these are written the way many horoscopes are composed. So widely encapsulating that many people can see themselves in the description. Still, I do see much of me in this. On the other hand, I also looked up my husband and it had me going for a minute until I got to ‘You don’t stick with any one thing for very long.Your biggest problem is making sure you finish the projects you start.’

Oh my god, whoever wrote that certainly doesn’t know him. Dog with a bone springs to mind. I mean that 95% in a good way. In another it can be extremely irritating because he really doesn’t let go of a project. Most others will have wandered away to find something more entertaining or distracting but he has to finish what he started. The rest though does remind me of him: You are a seeker of knowledge, and you have learned many things in your life. You are also a keeper of knowledge - meaning you don’t spill secrets or spread gossip. People sometimes think you’re snobby or aloof, but you’re just too deep in thought to pay attention to them.

Oh yes. Definitely yes! Still, if you took this in any degree seriously it would drive you crazy. Or at least it would drive me crazy. It would beg the question does something in the universe fit a name to you, or do you grow around the shape of your name? Think about it…
