A truly appreciated review

Posted by Sharon on July 27, 2008 in Reviews |

Out of all the wonderful reviews I’ve received for Snow Angel, I can’t pass up mentioning this one. It put a huge grin on my face and made me laugh with delight. I honestly don’t think a review has tickled me so much for ages.

You can read the review that still has me smiling here and my thanks go to Sharrow.

Guess what I’m reading (again and again) Yeah Angel Heart. I wish Loose Id would release Snow Angel and Angel Heart in paperback already.

Anyway. Nice review hon. Well deserved.

Awww, thank you. I loved the books, they so rocked!

Any chance of some more contemps?

Firstly, I’d love to see these two books in print with both in one volume, even though ironically it would make me less money. If it comes to it, I’ve decided that I will eventually make sure that they see print even if I have to self-publish. However, the problem with that is it could be far into the future as I have many options to consider: contractual obligations, what’s best for me, and what’s best for the book.

I am pretty sure that Loose-Id will want to renew the contract on Snow Angel and Angel Heart (they recently renewed on Uly’s Comet, which was up in August — Snow Angel runs out in December) and the chances are I will say yes.

There are certain aspects to the contract where I could search for a print market but not for another year after renewal. It’s not straight forward and the way publishers choose books for print is a very confusing thing. Sales aren’t always the deciding factor and I certainly can’t pester them. All I can say to any readers out there that is that if there is any ebook they wish to see in print, tell the publisher. If enough people ask maybe it will make a difference.

And, Sarah, the simple answer is yes. I have two or three ideas kicking around in my head at present. The only thing I can say is that readers probably won’t see one until sometime next year. I’ve got other obligations (personal and writing wise) to oversee first, but there is more work planned.

I think I will Sharon, I am surprised that Loose Id don’t publish more of there stuff in print. I mean of course I understand they are a e-publisher first. But it might be the selfish person in me. I think the only two print books I would love is from you (for SA and AH) and Angela Fiddler for her Master of the Lines series. Though I’m not sure where to actually submit that query?

  • Sharon says:

I’m afraid the writers are no clearer than the readers as to when, how, and why an epublisher decides to put a book into print. I am aware it’s expensive and that they expect books to meet certain criteria before they consider that option. What remains unclear is exactly what that criteria is. It seems to fluctuate.

In a sense I shouldn’t want the books out in print. Print copies will earn me a HELL of a lot less money. Still, I think the ideal market will offer readers any book in whatever format they wanted.

Customer service for Loose-Id is at help@loose-id.com

Don’t be surprised if you get a set reply. That’s only to be expected but I still think it’s worth an email for readers to let publishers know what they’d like.

I find it odd, some books will go out in print but to me don’t seem to be “seen” as popular. I lurk about in BLOG land, and I can tell the difference from the hot seller getting print books vs. the not so hot seller who still gets print books. I think that’s what makes me confused the most. But the final say is left to the “bosses” :)

  • Sharon says:

Quite, and even when writers ask the replies never make it clearer. LOL. I realise it’s a business decision but I’m never sure quite what the deciding factor is.
